Andrew Girdwood's blog: Top ten stupid questions from 2008

Heheh, awesome. Did you have to answer really diplomatically or did you just use a withering look?

I hope I didn't miss a beat once! Each one was answered as well as I could at that moment in time!

Great post. It is often easily overlooked the amount of "dumb" questions you get asked. Just shows the amount of knowledge people who work in search and online marketing have that you almost take for granted?

I very nearly didn't post this - I like to encourage people to ask questions; no matter how dumb they might think they are. Ah; perhaps that explains the collection!

#1 is a corker. Although I have to say, you're potentially treading dangerous waters there I think. I've known people to fish and to ask dumb questions then look into the whites of your eyes. If you (as I suspect you would) respond calmly and correctly, then it's all cool and groovy and that's what they are hoping for.

It's the smart-arse retort that will land you in trouble / lose you a contract. That's also what they're hoping for.

Personally, I feel it's better if somebody has to ask a question even if it's regarding a relatively obvious subject which you feel they should already be able to comprehend. that this is a good thing as it shows they are listening and attempting to understand. If they are scribbling down your jargon in the hope that a cheeky Google later will save their ignorance then that's deplorable.

I'd agree. I'd rather have the questions than no questions. I actually encourage people to ask questions even if they're silly (a lot of silly questions are only silly in hindsight).

As to not being a smart-arse; I think this a challenge all agencies face on a daily basis! I hope I do okay...
